Human Dignity Summit 2018
At Brophy College Prep, we have a Summit every year. The whole school spends two weeks to focus on a certain topic, and this year we are focusing on human dignity and how people are being treated as slaves or products. Our teacher gave us a task to create a poster for this specific topic to post up in the school for others to see.
Inspiration:
From looking at posters on human trafficking (we focused on this subject), we saw many dark and grey posters with people dirty and/or bruised with handcuffs or rope tied to them. We were told to try to avoid doing what these posters have done and do something that is less dark and horror.
Sketches:
Before, we were going for a look like the posters that we saw. We had advice from our teacher to try to go away from the dark horror theme and do something else. We had a fist breaking out of a box as the only one that was not dark, but we made a new sketch of buddies sticking up for each other against a buyer. We took the shape of the big giant and colors from the Strangers and Strangers project. We also got the buyer in front small from the head and mural picture.
Digital Comps:
We decided to go for a more animated style. We scanned our rough draft into photoshop as our guide to drawing this. We drew each one in Adobe Photoshop and organized the layers when necessary.
FINAL POSTER:
After critiquing with students and our teacher, we came up with this as our final poster. The buyer, with the cash, is small compared to the other three. We did this to show how being together and speaking up for each other makes us bigger and stronger than the threat. We had the for sale sign have a not in it to show that humans should and are not for sale. The sentence on top shows how we can help and that we can say whatever we want to. The shadow around the poster gives it a little more effective and a little darker. We made it red and black because we liked the colors together and the contrast as well.
